Welcome to DunOr.org

We are a Barony located in the Antelope Valley, high in Southern California, and encompassing the geographic area from Palmdale to the Tehachapi mountains. Made up of a smaller population but mighty in our members, we are very proud of their contributions within the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA). A true valley of Kings, for our Caidan Chapter has contributed 4 of the last 6 crowned since the Spring of 2006. We welcome all who are interested in our mission as a non-profit, educational, and historical society dedicated to reliving and recreating the Middle Ages and Renaissance.

Please join us in Dun Or for The Festival of the Rose to be held on February 7th, 2009 in honor of Her Royal Majesty Kolfinna on her special day. The theme of the day will be “All Things Viking”. The populace of the Kingdom is invited to display original works for the pleasure of Her Majesty. The Barony will be offering a luncheon repast for a suggested donation of $5.00. This will be more than just a brown bag special.

On Saturday September 13th two of Dun Or’s very own became Champions of the Angels in both Rapier and Heavy Weapons. Congratulations go to His Excellency Colyn mac Labhruinn and to Sechequr Qara. Of note additionally, His Grace Edric Aaron Harwood made it to the Quarter finals and Kelan McBride of Arainn to the Semi finals in Rapier. It was heard in closing court at the end of the day’s events a comment by Her Highness that something must be in our water…

Small in numbers but mighty on the field, we are the little Barony that can! Huzzah!

Colyn and I traveled to the Isles to take part in the annual Rapier Open. This event determines the kingdom’s Rapier Champion for the year.

The day’s tourneys were very unusual and looked to provide us all with ample fighting. There were four “speed tourneys,” the winner of each being given a slot in the quarter finals. Colyn was victorious over Don Ian in the 2nd of the four tourneys. He had twisted his ankle (falling down laughing literally) and so opted to forgo the next two tourneys. Colyn again was victorious over his next two combatants in the quarter and semi finals, winning a place in the finals.

Colyn was met by Don Alexander Kalidokos in this final bout. Her Majesty gave leave for them to use their weapons of choice, and they took this opportunity to enlist the help of some feathered friends. The first fight would be sword and flamingo! The flamingos were valiant but they both struck mortal blows and so were laid to rest, and the two fighters continued with only their swords. Don Alexander defeated Don Colyn in this first round. The second fight continued with both men fighting with great skill. His Excellency Colyn was triumphant in the second fight, and this meant that the championship would be decided on this final pairing. Swords flew, minutes past, and yet both still stood. Then in a flash, Don Colyn dispatched Don Alexander, leaving Don Colyn the final victor.

So I witnessed this day,

This was found on the TIME website. Our Kingdom, Barony, and our gracious Baroness are mentioned in a new book entitled “American Nerd”, by Benjamin Nugent. The excerpt makes for a fun read with many places mentioned easily recognized.
